Haas hoped to have completed more laps in Melbourne

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner admits the US team did not complete as many laps as they ideally wanted on the opening day in Melbourne.

The first two practice sessions of 2016 were disrupted by frequent showers which limited the amount of running they could complete.

Romain Grosjean ended FP2 in 13th place whilst teammate Esteban Gutierrez was two places higher in 11th.

Steiner admits Haas made ‘the best out of the situation’ but wishes the team had completed more laps on the opening day in Melbourne when the track was at its driest.

“It’s been a mixed day for us. During the first practice with the rain coming and going, we got some laps in but not as much as we’d hoped. However, we made the best out of the situation and made some progress.

“The second practice was very similar to the first one. We didn’t achieve as many laps as we wanted in the session, but we’ll utilize all the data we have and keep working hard as we head into tomorrow.”

Third practice for the Australian Grand Prix gets underway at 0300 GMT.
