Ferrari are never far from success. For the team’s adoring Tifosi, 2014 was a bitter pill to swallow – Ferrari’s first winless season since 1993 – yet 2015 saw the squad take a turn in the right direction.
Driven forward by the proven technical expertise of James Allison, Ferrari claimed three victories courtesy of Sebastian Vettel, who seamlessly integrated with the Maranello lifestyle. The German is well on his way into Ferrari folk-law.
However, his ultimate ambition is to break the team’s current championship drought. Not since the incumbent Kimi Raikkonen managed to snatch 2007 title glory away from McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, has Ferrari won the drivers’ championship.
With their 2016 challenger marking an evolution for the squad in a year where rivals have been much more reserved in regards to their developments, Ferrari have been touted as Mercedes’ biggest threat this year.
With the newly adopted push-rod front suspension playing into both Vettel and Raikkonen’s hands and pre-season timesheets suggesting a tight battle is looming at the top of the order, there is early evidence that the Scuderia are genuine title contenders once again.
In the slides below, we assess Ferrari’s title credentials and whether it will be Vettel or Raikkonen best placed to topple reigning champion Lewis Hamilton.
