# Gasly quickest on final day of first GP2 test

Pierre Gasly was quickest for the second day running as he shattered the lap record for this and the last generation of GP2 cars.

The Red Bull protege ended the final day of the first test ahead of the 2016 GP2 season with an impressive 1:27:386 in the morning session. The PREMA Racing driver was three-tenths ahead of second place- Norman Nato making it a French one-two.

Nato was just over one-tenth clear of Gasly’s teammate Giovinazzi who has made an impressive start to his GP2 career. The Italian was ahead of Gasly’s former teammate Alex Lynn who set a 1:27:841. 2015 GP3 champion Luca Ghiotto rounded out the top five with De Jong, Evans, Latifi, King and Sirotkin completing the top 10.

Rapax driver Gustav Malja found himself fastest in the afternoon session with a 1:28:719 ahead of Jimmy Eriksson who is set to be confirmed as a Arden driver soon.

There were four red flags in total today with Sergey Sirotkin spinning out, Giovinazzi stopping at turn four, former teammate Binder and Marciello colliding and van Buuren stopping on track with just 15 minutes to go.

Teams focused on pit-stop practice and long runs in the afternoon with Sirotkin recovering well from a troubled morning to set more laps than anyone else in the afternoon with 55 laps on the board.

Pacesetter, Pierre Gasly set more laps than anyone else in the morning session (51) and has quickly asserted himself as one of the favorites to lift the GP2 crown in 2016.

The GP2 grid now heads to Jerez for the final three days of testing from the 29th of March to the 31st.
