# Phillip Island Test: Marquez tops crash filled final day

Honda’s Marc Marquez topped the timesheets on the final day of testing at the Phillip Island Circuit.

Marquez traded fastest times with day two pacesetter, Maverick Vinales, eventually finishing the day just a tenth clear of the Suzuki rider.

Cal Crutchlow ended the day third fastest ahead of Hector Barbera and Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi.

Only one second separated the top 15 riders showing the closeness between the MotoGP field in 2016.

The start of the test day was dry, allowing riders to complete some meaningful running after rain impacted the two previous days.

However, the session was halted early on after both Marc VDS riders, Tito Rabat and Jack Miller, fell on the same lap, resulting in a brief red flag period.

Several more drivers fell as the final day of testing at the Phillip Island Circuit progressed, Vinales fell shortly after the Marc VDS duo as well as teammate Aleix Espargaro.

Rain then caused a two-hour delay in proceedings before several more falls. Tito Rabat, Aleix Espargaro, Bradley Smith and Cal Crutchlow all slid off at turn four.

MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo soon joined them along with Danilo Petrucci in the long list of casualties. All of them escaped unharmed except Petrucci, who later confirmed he has fractured his right-hand.

The final pre-season test takes place in Qatar between March 2 and 4.
