# Ex-F1 driver Chilton finds IndyCar drive

Former Marussia Formula One driver Max Chilton will drive for the Chip Ganassi Racing team in IndyCar in 2016.

The 24-year-old began racing in America last year, helping Carlin develop their Indy Lights programme, winning one race at the Iowa Speedway, which was dedicated to former teammate Jules Bianchi on the weekend of his passing.

He joins Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan and Charlie Kimball at the team as he embarks on a debut season in the championship. He joins a team which, in Dixon, has the current drivers’ champion and, in Chevrolet, have the current manufacturers’ champion.

Chilton is probably best known for his drives in Formula One which saw him claim 25 consecutive finishes from the 2013 Australian Grand Prix until the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix. With 19 races completed in his first season, he claimed the record for the most classified finishes in a rookie season.

After his spell in the sport came to a close when Marussia went into administration at the end of 2014, he also raced for Nissan at last year’s Le Mans race.

The Briton joins former Formula One drivers such as Takuma Sato, Sebastien Bourdais and Juan Pablo Montoya in the category. He will begin the IndyCar season on March 13 at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida.
