Palmer announces Formula One driver number

Renault’s Jolyon Palmer has announced via Twitter that he will use the number 30 as his racing number in his Formula One career.

The Briton had previously used the number during his spell as Lotus’ test and reserve driver last season but has decided to continue using it in his full career.

Palmer will make his debut in a full race weekend in Melbourne having taken over from Romain Grosjean, who moved from the Enstone team to Haas for 2016.

He is due to partner Pastor Maldonado this season, however, there has been much speculation as to whether the Venezuelan will be replaced by former McLaren driver Kevin Magnussen before the season even begins.

Having moved into the role after winning the 2014 GP2 championship with DAMS, the 25-year-old featured in thirteen race weekends in 2015.

Palmer’s first Practice One session came in China, before such highlights as taking part in his home weekend at Silverstone, and having his most recent run in Abu Dhabi at the end of the season last November.

His reasoning for selecting the number is yet to be revealed.
