Kvyat happy if Red Bull makes small progress

Daniil Kvyat claims as long as Red Bull make steps forward and see progress at the start of the 2016 season, the team will be happy, but ultimately being on the top step of the podium is their main goal.

After the team struggled last year with reliability and performance issues from the Renault power unit, Kvyat wants to see some progress with the whole package. Red Bull will still be using a Renault power unit but this will now be branded Tag Heuer following the fallout from the disagreement between Renault and Red Bull last season.

“We aim to make steps forward and so as long as we see progress and make steps forward we’ll be happy, but we will always aim high. We’ll never be really happy until we’re back on the top step of the podium but for now, let’s start with small signs of progress. That would satisfy me for now.”

Kvyat was speaking to the Red Bull Racing website following his return from a break over the winter. He claims his preparation and training began earlier this year but he is not going to the extremes of last year.

“My preparation started in the new year, mainly just getting back into the training rhythm, then from the second week of January I was back into the normal training rhythm. Now we’re working with the engineers and the team, so the proper track preparation starts now.”

We’re training in quite normal conditions because we’ll never end up racing in minus 20 degrees, so it’s just normal European weather plus 10 degrees or so.

Red bull is expected to unveil their 2016 challenger on the 22nd February shortly before the start of the first test in Barcelona but their hotly anticipated new livery minus the Infiniti branding will be unveiled in London on February 17th.
