# Prema Racing announce Giovinazzi for 2016 GP2 Season

New GP2 team Prema Racing announced today that Antonio Giovinazzi will drive for them in the forthcoming 2016 GP2 season.

The Italian has spent the last three years racing in European Formula 3, taking eight victories from 96 race starts. His 2015 season was by far his best as his early season consistency flung him into a title battle with Charles Leclerc and eventual champion Felix Rosenqvist.

Giovinazzi missed out on the title but finished second overall in the championship, and for the first time in his racing career proved to be one of the best young drivers in motorsport.

Giovinazzi said in the team’s [press release](https://www.premapowerteam.com/en/news.php?categ=-1&id_news=17685): “I am delighted to become a part of Prema, a prestigious team with a huge motorsport culture. This is a great opportunity for me, because they always showed that they are the best possible choice for a young driver.”

Prema’s team principal René Rosin explained why he chose the Italian for 2016: “We know him really well for being one of our most fierce competitors in the F.3 European Championship last season. I always admired him for what he accomplished in his so far young career so I am proud to finally see our paths crossing.”

The identity of Giovinazzi’s team-mate is still yet to be confirmed but with the likes of Felix Rosenqvist and Pierre Gasly rumoured, Prema Racing will surely be one of the teams to watch in GP2 this year.
