Sutil’s case against Sauber has been upheld

Adrian Sutil’s legal dispute against the Sauber Formula One team has been upheld by a court in Zurich.

The case relates to the termination of Sutil’s contract and unpaid money in excess of $3.5 million dollars from 2014. Sutil drove for Sauber in 2014 and he contracted to drive for them again in 2015 however Sauber decided instead to have Marcus Ericcson and Felipe Nasr drive for them last season. This led to a legal battle between Giedo van der Garde, who had also been contracted to drive for the team during the 2015 season, this case resulted in a win for van der Garde who received a paid settlement in March 2015.

Whilst this case was going through the courts Sutil’s case was also working its way slowly through the legal proceedings. Sutil’s case relates to unpaid earnings amounting to more than $3.5 million, and a breach of contract as Sutil was not allowed to race in 2015. In response to this claims Sauber informed the legal team they did not continue with Sutil’s contract as he underperformed, criticised the team and failed to provide $40 million in sponsorship to the team.

Despite Sauber’s claims the judge sided with Sutil and the case has been upheld. A date will now be set for court proceedings.
