# Hulkenberg seventh despite understeer woes

Nico Hulkenberg was content with finishing the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in seventh, after facing understeer woes which hindered his progress in the opening two stints.

The German entered the weekend looking to defend his tenth position in the standings. With Lotus’ Romain Grosjean and Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen just three points adrift heading into the weekend, Hulkenberg had plenty to play for in the season finale.

With Grosjean finishing eighth and Verstappen trailing home in 16th, Hulkenberg’s seventh place finish, bagging a final six points to add to his tally, marked mission accomplished for the German.

However, teammate Sergio Perez capped an excellent campaign with a well-earned fifth place. He once again outperformed Hulkenberg throughout the weekend and enjoyed a straightforward race.

Conversely, Nico acknowledged that his day was far from simple, with the early phases of the race posing him a particular challenge, as he battled for balance in his VJM08.

“I had a lot of understeers and it was difficult to get the car to turn in, especially at a track with so many tight corners, so I suffered in the first two stints,” he highlighted in an interview featured on the [official F1 website](https://www.formula1.com/content/fom-website/en/latest/headlines/2015/11/in-quotes---sunday-in-abu-dhabi.html).

“The final part of the race was a bit better and I was able to get into a rhythm, which was important to keep our position.”

Hulkenberg ends 2015 on 58 points, leaving him 20 adrift of his teammate. Perez’s headline results, such as his podium finish in Russia, clearly making a difference in the final assessment.
