Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo says he is already looking forward to Abu Dhabi after a dismal weekend saw him finish 11th after starting from the back due to a grid penalty for receiving a new and upgraded Renault power unit.
The Australian described his race; “In the first few laps, we made up some positions and did what we could and then we went for an aggressive first stop. When we put the primes on, we didn’t really have the tyre life we thought we would so we still had to do a three stop race, running at a pretty similar pace to the cars around us.”
The newly upgraded Renault power unit which Ricciardo was using this weekend was certainly disappointing as he failed to show any signs of improvement over the old power unit which his teammate was running.
Daniil finished in seventh place, well ahead of his team-mate albeit starting the race further up. Ricciardo would have been expecting much more from the new Renault PU.
The 26-year-old branded the race as a “little bit boring”.
However, Ricciardo highlighted his “nice battle with Sergio (Perez) for a few laps, which was encouraging. I had to get around him twice and that kept me excited for a while.” as his highlight of the race.
Finally, Daniel spoke of the final round of the 2015 Formula One season in Abu Dhabi; “Abu Dhabi’s next and that has always been a good circuit for us. I enjoy it a lot so for the last race of the season we’ll hopefully finish strong and in the points.”
