# Perez: “I will remember this weekend forever”

Sergio Perez has praised the “amazing atmosphere” created by the fans at his home race in Mexico, saying that it will be an unforgettable weekend.

Perez achieved eight position in his home race, which was the first Formula 1 race in Mexico in 23 years.

“What a week this has been here in Mexico! The atmosphere has been amazing and there were so many special moments,” Perez commented after the race conclusion

“The race today was probably one of the most difficult of my career because I was very unlucky with the timing of the safety car, which really didn’t help my one-stop strategy.

Perez was the only driver who finished the race to stick to a one-stop strategy. Although he found himself in a difficult position after the safety car, he was very happy to be able to keep his place until the end of the race.

“To stay ahead of them and finish in eighth place is probably one of my best performances in Formula One and I’m very happy I could score points in front of my home crowd.”

While Perez stayed on the medium compound tyre, the likes of Max Verstappen, Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado behind him were on the soft tyre for the end of the race.

“I am very lucky to have this huge support from my country and I will remember this weekend forever. I think everybody has enjoyed the energy of the crowd and this must surely be one of the most popular races on the calendar now.”

Perez is ninth in the drivers championship with two more races to go, 16 points behind Daniel Ricciardo and 21 points behind Max Verstappen.
