# Ricciardo happy with Red Bull’s competitiveness in Mexico

Daniel Ricciardo says he was happy with the competitiveness of his Red Bull at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Red Bull enjoyed a strong outing in Mexico, in particular in free practice two. The Red Bull duo split the Mercedes pair as Nico Rosberg topped FP2.

Due to the high altitude of the circuit, extra strain is put on the various power units.

Ricciardo is wary that Mercedes, Ferrari and Williams may have more pace to come but says he is happy with the pace shown by Red Bull today.

“I think what you lose from the engine and everything you gain from the air’s so thin,” he told [ESPN F1](https://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/14011900/red-bull-seems-competitive-mexico-daniel-ricciardo). “The car is a lot more slippery, from what I understand, down the straights. It still feels pretty quick to be honest. We seem competitive today, I don’t know how much Mercedes, Ferrari and Williams have tomorrow but seeing that the straights are long I think we’re doing okay.”

Many drivers complained about the lack of grip which proved to be testing for some of the drivers as Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas spun in FP2.

“It’s pretty good. I think the track’s got a lot more potential, in terms of its so slippery out there. Even in the afternoon when it was dry the high-speed stuff was still very slippery as if it was still damp. I think it’s just the new track and a bit of water this morning and probably the oil from the tarmac coming up — once it grips up I think it will be pretty fun.”

Rain is forecasted for Sunday’s race which should suit Red Bull in particular considering their strong pace in changeable conditions in Austin last weekend.
