Magnussen to test Porsche LMP1 in November

Former Formula One driver Kevin Magnussen will test for Porsche’s LMP1 World Endurance Championship team next month at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Magnussen raced alongside Jenson Button at McLaren in 2014 but was dropped the following season to make way for Fernando Alonso.

Magnussen scored a podium on his Formula One debut by finishing second at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix. The Dane is widely acknowledged as a big talent but missed out on a Formula One drive after McLaren confirmed Jenson Button would be remaining at the team in 2016.

Magnussen was one of three drivers named to test for Porsche next month. The 23-year old will be joined by GP2 race winner Mitch Evans and Formula E driver Oliver Turvey.

“We decided to give three young drivers a chance to test the Porsche 919 Hybrid; the seat fit and simulator preparation is already done,” said Porsche Team Principal Andreas Seidl in a series of tweets by the team.

“We are looking forward to the test and will see what the future brings.”
