Pastor Maldonado has scored points again for Lotus, which he says is a ‘positive’ thing for the team.
After qualifying 15th in wet conditions on the rearranged Sunday morning session, Maldonado kept out of trouble on the drying circuit, finishing the race in 8th place and gaining four points for the team.
“We are in the points once again which is the main positive thing for the team,” Maldonado said after the race. “It was quite a busy race with a lot of fighting around me, and even some fighting with the car as it didn’t quite perform as expected. It was a little bit strange because we are normally quite strong in the races; better than in qualifying in fact.”
Maldonado was involved in a few of the fights happening across the circuit while he passed both Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso during lap 50 of the race.
“My crew were great all day with qualifying and the race. We hope to continue scoring strong points in the remaining races.”
For the other side of the garage, the race wasn’t as positive. Romain Grosjean, who is leaving for the new Haas F1 team next year, was one of the first to retire from the race on lap 12.
