Lewis Hamilton secured a third world title with a win at the Circuit of the Americas in what was a chaotic event.
Nico Rosberg came home second ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen. Eight cars failed to make the chequered flag.
All of the drivers started on the intermediate tyres with the switch to dry tyres the key to winning the race.
Hamilton took the lead into turn one, colliding slightly with teammate Nico Rosberg and pushing the German wide, demoting him to fourth.
Daniil Kvyat made a fantastic start and was up to second challenging Hamilton for the lead of the race. Further down the field, former Ferrari teammates Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso collided.
Similarly, Romain Grosjean and Valtteri Bottas were in the wars, both sustaining damage with the latter pitting for slicks which proved to be the wrong decision.
Rosberg began his pursuit of the Red Bull duo and passed both on lap eight.
Ricciardo then got ahead of his teammate and Rosberg on lap 18, passing the German into turn one.
Race leader Lewis Hamilton dropped from the lead of the race to fourth as he struggled with graining on his intermediate tyres. Hamilton was the first man to pit of the front runners but was unable to undercut either Red Bull driver.
Hamilton soon made light work of Ricciardo for second position but was 10 seconds off his teammate at this point.
The first safety car was deployed on lap 28 which allowed Vettel, Sainz, Hulkenberg and Perez to make their stops.
Red Bull’s race deteriorated from this point onwards as Kvyat made several mistakes and dropped to seventh. Teammate Ricciardo collided with Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg forcing the latter to retire from the race.
The race turned on its head once again as a second safety car was deployed on lap 43 allowing Hamilton and Vettel to pit. Rosberg pitted earlier under the virtual safety car meaning he inherited the lead from Hamilton, Verstappen and Vettel once the safety car went in.
Nico Rosberg made a mistake in the final sector giving Hamilton the lead of the race and his tenth win of the season. Rosberg managed to hold onto second position. Vettel came home third ahead of Verstappen and Perez, who pitted early on and managed to preserve his tyres till the end.
Jenson Button finished sixth ahead of Carlos Sainz, Pastor Maldonado, Felipe Nasr and Daniel Ricciardo. Fernando Alonso finished 11th after suffering heavy tyre wear in the latter stages of the race while Alexander Rossi finished 12th at his home event.
