Qualifying for the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas has been postponed until Sunday morning due to heavy rain.
Due to Hurricane Patricia, rainfall in Austin and neighbouring places has been non-stop. It has been raining in Austin all Saturday forcing qualifying to be postponed until 0900 local time on Sunday (1400 GMT).
FIA race director Charlie Whiting decided it was too wet for qualifying to go ahead but waited three hours before deciding to postpone qualifying.
If qualifying is unable to take place tomorrow, the race would also be in jeopardy if conditions do not improve in time. This would leave the FIA in a predicament. If conditions were to improve for the race, the grid could be decided by the results of third practice, where all 20 cars set a time.
