# Formula E Team Preview: Trulli

**Team:** Trulli Formula E Team

**Drivers:** Vitantonio Liuzzi and Salvador Durán

**Team Principal:** Lucio Cavuto

**2014/15 Championship:** 10th

In June last year, Team Trulli took the Drayson Racing’s entry slot who had pulled out of the sport before any racing had even taken place. Trulli’s late entry into the sport meant they struggled for pace in the opening rounds with driver/team principal Jarno Trulli and female racer Michela Cerruti.

Beijing was an awful opening race for the team as Trulli failed to complete a single racing lap after a battery failure meanwhile Cerutti finished down in 13th place. Malaysia went even worse with a 16th and DNF, however, Uruguay brought a surprise fourth place finish for Jarno Trulli, the first points in Formula E for the team. A double DNF in Argentina soon brought them crashing back to earth.

Ex-Formula One racer Vitantonio Liuzzi replaced Michela Cerruti until the end of the season bar London where Alex Fontana stood in for the Italian. It would take until round seven in Berlin for Trulli to score again as Trulli took a shock pole position. The Italian failed to convert into points in the race, but team-mate Liuzzi scored two points for his ninth place finish. Those would be the last points for the Trulli team as they slumped to 10th and last in the constructors standings with just 17 points.

For 2015/16, Motomatica will be producing Trulli’s powertrain and the Swiss team will be hoping the new powertrain and new driver Salvador Duran alongside Trulli regular Liuzzi will be enough to elevate them up the FE grid.

The former Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Force India and HRT driver will be hoping to add to his Formula E points tally in 2015/16.

The Italian began his racing career in karts, the highlight been beating Michael Schumacher at Kerpen (widely considered as Schumi’s home track). Liuzzi continued to win championships in single seaters as he took the 2004 International Formula 3000 championship, this lead to a drive in Formula One with debutants Red Bull racing in 4 of the 19 rounds of the 2005 Formula One season.

He scored 4 points in 35 races with Toro Rosso between 2006-07. He was eventually dropped in favour of Sebastian Bourdais. Liuzzi tested for Force India in 2008 and got his shot with the team when Fisichella left to join Ferrari from the 2009 Italian Grand Prix onwards.

He failed to score any points but was given a drive for 2010 with Force India this time scoring 21 points but way behind the tally of team-mate Adrian Sutil. After an unsuccessful venture with HRT in 2011, Liuzzi moved to other series and made his Formula E debut in last year’s Miami E-Prix. He took part in 5 races with a best finish of 9th coming in Berlin, Liuzzi target is to score regular points this year and beat incoming teammate Salvador Durán while at the same time pushing the development of the team’s powertrain.

Salvador Durán makes the brave switch from Team Aguri to Trulli Formula E team for the 2015/16 season.

The popular Mexican has competed in numerous championships from Formula Renault 3.5 between 2007-2010 and A1 Grand Prix from 2005 to 2009. Arguably his racing career highlight has to be winning the 24hr of Daytona alongside Juan Pablo Montoya and Scott Pruett. After, Legge left Amlin Aguri after Malaysia, Salvador was drafted in to replace the British racer.

Durán was set to take points in only his second race until he was DSQ for exceeding the maximum power usage. He set the record straight in Miami though where he finished in 10th and won the fan boost proving the Mexican’s popularity.

Double DNF’s followed in Long Beach and Monaco but in Moscow, Salvador scored his best result of the season with a sixth place and capped off the season with an 8th in London in race 2. Durán will be hoping Trulli can offer him a quick car for 2015/16 so he can continue to develop his Formula E skill and challenge for points regularly.
