Lotus driver Romain Grosjean says he is happy to have qualified eighth for the Russian Grand Prix after a disrupted morning.
Opening practice was cut short due to a diesel leak while second practice was hit by heavy rainfall. Saturday practice was also cut short after Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz crashed heavily at turn 13 resulting in the Techpro barriers being severely damaged.
Grosjean qualified over a second ahead of teammate Maldonado and said he was happy to have made the top ten after a difficult weekend thus far with the several interruptions.
“I’m happy with P8 and I think good things are possible in the race.It was a pretty good qualifying session for us.
Every team goes into the race on Sunday without any long run data meaning they are unaware to know how long the two tyre compounds last.
“We knew the top ten was achievable if everything went right. It was quite a challenging day as we didn’t have so much data to work from so we had to make a few choices during qualifying, but it all seemed to work quite well for us.”
