# Ocon on top in GP3 practice in Sochi

ART GP’s Esteban Ocon topped GP3 practice at the Sochi Autodrom ahead of Ralph Boschung.

In tricky conditions, Ocon set the fastest time of the session putting him two-tenths clear of Boschung.

GP3 championship leader Luca Ghiotto was fifth fastest in practice, under five-tenths off the pace set by Ocon – his nearest rival in the drivers’ championship.

Palou, Eriksson, Bernstorff, Stuvik and Morris completed the top ten positions.

Alex Fontana crashed with 15 minutes of practice remaining resulting in a red flag. The Status Grand Prix driver was unhurt and finished the session twelfth fastest.

Organisers and fans would have been concerned as light quickly faded as the session came to a close.

After the events of the 2014 Formula One Japanese Grand Prix and tragic accident of Jules Bianchi, an earlier session time for GP3 practice would have been appropriate.  The lack of light made it difficult for the drivers also factoring in the heavy rain.

Qualifying for the GP3 series will take place at 0930 local time.
