Williams confident of matching Ferrari in Singapore

Williams F1 Team’s head of performance engineering Rob Smedley is confident that his team can match Ferrari at this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix as they introduce a new upgrade package.

The Marina Bay Street Circuit is a high-downforce circuit, similar to Monaco and Hungary, which Williams struggled at earlier this season.

Last time out in Italy, Felipe Massa finished third, however, was helped by Nico Rosberg’s retirement and Kimi Raikkonen stalling at the start.

“I think Ferrari showed great pace,” Smedley told Autosport.

“They’ve done a really, really good job.

“They brought a new power unit which delivered in qualifying and the race.

“What we need to do now is to react to that. We’ve got some fairly healthy upgrades coming in Singapore.

“We just have to react, we have to keep bringing what we can bring in all the areas and we can’t stand still.

“I’m hoping that with the changes we’re going to make, we’re going to be back on par with them in Singapore.”

Williams currently sit third in the constructors’ championship, 82 points behind Ferrari.
