Maldonado hoping for strong performance in Singapore

Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado says he is hoping for a strong result in Singapore after retiring on the opening lap of the Italian Grand Prix.

Maldonado has retired in eight of the 12 races so far in 2015 and has only scored 12 points.

The Venezuelan qualified second in 2012 and was running in the top five before retiring from the race for Williams due to a mechanical issue.

“I’m positive. Singapore’s a fantastic event, it’s a fun circuit and we’ve got a great car. We’ve shown at many different circuits that we can perform well this year so it’s another race where we want to get out there and put in a strong performance.”

Maldonado admits racing in the night is no different from racing during the day.

“To be honest, it is not too different to racing in the day or at night. The main reason is quite simple – when we drive we do not look upwards, we are always focusing on what is straight ahead.”
