After an Italian Grand Prix, that was a struggle for all non-Mercedes or Ferrari powered cars, Formula One new boy Carlos Sainz Jr was still upbeat and positive.
The young Spaniard missed out on a points finish as he finished eleventh, however he felt his weekend could have been very different, if they hadn’t picked up the 5 second penalty so early on in the race.
“I’m pretty happy with today’s race, especially with our pace. We were quick, and towards the end of the race I was getting closer and closer to the ones ahead and, even though I didn’t manage to catch them it felt good to know we were faster.”
“It’s a shame we didn’t get that final point that I think we deserved, but the five-second penalty I had to complete at the beginning of the race wasn’t ideal.”
The Spanish driver was still positive about his race, as he compared it to some of his previous failures;
“There are many positives to take from today: we finally finished a race after four retirements in a row, something I really needed, and enjoyed some good fights!”
