Pirelli’s motorsport director Paul Hembery says he expects the majority of the teams to opt for a one-stop strategy in tomorrow’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Despite Pirelli bringing the soft and medium tyre compounds to Monza, instead of the medium and hard tyres, which have been used in 2012, 2013, and 2014 respectively.
After the drama of Spa, where Sebastian Vettel suffered a tyre failure on the penultimate lap, Pirelli will be hoping for a trouble-free afternoon at Monza.
“As usual, we saw an extremely tight qualifying session at Monza, with much of the field very closely matched. We’re expecting a one-stopper for the majority of runners, although two stops will be possible as well: the teams will no doubt be keeping an open mind on strategy.
Hembery added that a two-stop strategy could be possible due to the difficulties in overtaking the team’s may face. Like every race, tyre choice and pit-stops will be crucial.
“With overtaking being far from the easy at Monza, strategy is sure to play a key role in the race tomorrow.”
