# Malaysia to host F1 2016 December Finale

The 2016 Formula 1 season finale will now be held in Malaysia in December according to [Autosport.](https://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/120615)

The last round of the 2016 season was planned to once again be held in Abu Dhabi, but news broke out today that Malaysia will now host the finale for the first time since 2000.

The move was prompted by concerns from race organisers of the Singapore GP who saw potential back to back races with Malaysia damaging to their potential attendance figures.

Furthermore, the teams were concerned that the record-breaking 21 race calendar for 2016 would bring an end to the traditional summer break, therefore the calendar has been stretched to December.

Despite this there is still only a three-week gap between Hungary and Belgium and Belgium, Italy and Singapore may be delayed by a week to enable a longer summer break.

Williams team principal Claire Williams told AUTOSPORT:

“Not having the shutdown is a concern. It’s so important for everybody within Formula 1 they have that break, so we’ll be lobbying to reinstate it. ”

The 2016 season is scheduled to start on the third of April in Australia and will now finish on the fourth or 11th of December in Malaysia. However, with the future of Monza in doubt it remains unclear whether we will see a record-breaking 21 race season.
