More tyre cuts found by Pirelli over Spa weekend

Formula One’s Official Tyre Supplier Pirelli discovered tyre cuts on their tyres over the Belgian Grand Prix weekend at Spa-Francorchamps according to Motorsport.com.

Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel suffered a tyre failure each during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend at Spa.

Rosberg suffered a tyre blowout in Friday second practice, which was believed to have been caused by a car part rubbing on the tyre or some debris.

Vettel suffered a tyre puncture on the penultimate lap of the race, however, Pirelli did not offer an explanation to why Vettel suffered a tyre problem.

Motorsport.com reveal Pirelli found cuts on tyres across the Belgian Grand Prix weekend, mainly on the rear tyres.

Pirelli are still unsure of what is causing these cuts.

They have written to the FIA to ask for extra precaution to be taken to ensure the track surface and run off areas are cleaned properly.

Paul Hembery of Pirelli played down the similarities between Rosberg’s Friday blow-out and Vettel’s puncture during the race.

Hembery said: “No. Rosberg was an external cut, this was pure wear.

“If you look at the images, the carcass was still intact so it was a wear issue, the second one on Friday was a cut.”
