Marussia F1 Team are hoping for mixed conditions come race day for the Belgium Grand Prix.
Marussia have yet to score a single point in 2015 and a mixed race would give them a potential opportunity to score their first points of the season if there are numerous retirements further up the field.
Stevens qualified 19th ahead of teammate Merhi in qualifying earlier today. Stevens was 1.5 seconds slower than the next car ahead – Fernando Alonso thus look to be in a race of their own once more.
Due to various penalties, Stevens will start 16th and Merhi 17th.
They have only scored points on one occasion, a ninth place finish courtesy of Jules Bianchi at the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix.
Will Stevens said he was happy with his performance in qualifying and out-qualifying teammate Merhi was satisfying.
“I’m really happy with how things have gone today. The car feels really good and I’m enjoying a good battle with my teammate. It’s nice to end qualifying ahead, but I think we can expect a good fight between us tomorrow.
The last race which played host to changeable conditions was last month’s British Grand Prix where Merhi finished 12th and Stevens 13th – only a couple of places outside the points.
”It could be a very mixed race tomorrow, weather-wise. Potentially a bit like Silverstone where it was dry for the most part and then the rain came along and changed the landscape. Because of the nature of this track, we’ll need to keep our wits about us, but at the same time it could throw up a few opportunities for us.”
