Vandoorne takes home pole position at Spa

Stoffel Vandoorne will start on pole position for the GP2 Belgium Feature Race ahead of Oliver Rowland and Sergey Sirotkin.

Jordan King will start fourth ahead of Nobuharu Matsushita, Mitch Evans, Pierre Gasly and Alexander Rossi.

After the first runs, championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne led the way from an ever impressive Oliver Rowland, Mitch Evans and ART GP teammate Nobuharu Matsushita.

Vandoorne decided to set his second and final lap in the mid-session halt and managed to improve by two tenths to extend his advantage to six tenths over Rowland at the time.

Alexander Rossi set a blistering first sector, which was three-tenths quicker than Vandoorne’s, however, the American was unable to maintain that advantage through the rest of the lap.

Oliver Rowland got within two-tenths of the GP2 championship leader Vandoorne, but the latter never looked like losing pole position.

Alex Lynn ran slightly wide at the bus stop chicane and will be disappointed to have only been ninth.

Vandoorne’s nearest challenger in the championship, Rio Haryanto is a disappointing eleventh place ahead of Marciello, Visoiu and Pic.
