GP2 championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne topped the timesheets in practice at Spa-Francorchamps.
Vandoorne currently holds an 85-point lead over his nearest rival Rio Haryanto – who was only seventeenth fastest in practice.
Mitch Evans set the second fastest time of the session, just under two-tenths off the pace set by Vandoorne. The Russian Time driver has not finished in the points since Austria thus is in dire need of a result.
Alexander Rossi was third fastest ahead of Alex Lynn and Oliver Rowland – who continues to impress despite having limited mileage in the series. A late lap from Pierre Gasly put him sixth quickest.
Russian driver Sergey Sirotkin set the seventh fastest time of practice ahead of Pic, King and Marciello. The Ferrari junior stopped out on track momentarily but managed to bring his Trident car back into the support pitlane.
Nato, Canamasas and Markelov and De Jong were a tenth shy of making it into the top 10.
With a minute remaining, Pic lost control of his Campos Racing car resulting in a damaged front wing and rear suspension damage. MP Motorsport’s Oliver Rowland stopped out on track at the end of the session.
