Ricciardo expects rivals to close the gap in qualifying

Despite having a strong Friday at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Ricciardo is cautious over the team’s performance as he expects rivals Ferrari and Williams to close the gap tomorrow.

Ricciardo was third fastest in opening practice and repeated the same result in the second session. Red Bull teammate Daniil Kvyat was also competitive in both sessions, setting the fourth fastest time in both practice sessions.

The Australian was happy with the pace shown by Red Bull this weekend and would be content if he remained third fastest for the remainder of the weekend.

“Generally I think if we can stay third and fourth at this track it would be good.

Ricciardo expects the gap to the likes of Ferrari and Williams to close tomorrow but is hopeful the team can maintain third and fourth for tomorrow.

“It will probably be closer tomorrow as the gap from behind will close up a lot more, but let’s wait and see. Hopefully, we can maintain these positions for tomorrow.

“It would be good to find some more time on the Option tyre, so we’ll do our homework tonight like every team will.”

The Red Bull driver took victory last year at Spa after the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Rosberg collided on lap two of the race.
