Button praises ‘amazing support’ after burglary

McLaren driver Jenson Button has praised the support he and his wife Jessica Michibata have received after being burgled last month.

The pair were at their rented villa in the south of France with friends when the attack happened at the start of August.

The Formula One driver and his wife were gassed and robbed of around £300,000 worth of belongings.

Button has opened up for the first time about the attack and has praised the support he has received from fans and the general public.

The 2009 World Champion told The Telegraph “We’ve been in Japan for the last week after the ordeal of the week before.

“You never want people in your house who you haven’t invited, and when you’re asleep as well, but it is what it is and I’m sure it won’t be the last time it happens to someone.

The British driver added that raising awareness was the most important thing to come from the attack.

“But hopefully with all the reports it will make people aware and that is the most important thing – to make sure it doesn’t happen as often.

”I think I’ve probably had more support than when I won the world championship, so it has been really nice.

“A lot of people go through horrible experiences in life and it is definitely not one that I would wish upon anyone.”

The McLaren driver confirmed he has altered their security arrangements to ensure a similar event does not occur again in the future.
