McLaren set for grid penalties at Belgium GP

McLaren drivers Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button are set to receive a grid penalty for using a seventh Honda power unit according to Autosport.

Honda will use three of their engine tokens this weekend in a bid to match Ferrari’s power outage. Changes to the Honda power unit include a revised internal combustion engine, exhaust layout and gear train system.

In accordance with the rules, drivers will take a 10-place grid penalty for the first change of a set of components, in this case, the internal combustion engine.

Alonso is likely to take a 10-place grid penalty as he is yet to use a seventh component of any element while teammate Button is likely to take a 5-place grid penalty as he has already taken a seventh turbocharger and MGU-H.

Honda still has four tokens available to use from now and the end of the season to improve the performance and reliability of their power unit.

Ferrari still has seven tokens available while Mercedes and Renault have yet to use any of their token allocation so far in 2015 with seven and 12 remaining respectively.
