# Trident Racing announce Malja for Spa weekend

Trident Racing announced today that Swede Gustav Malja will race for the team at this weekend’s GP2 event at Spa-Francorchamps.

Malja will be replacing Rene Binder who is recovering from a bacterial infection which halted his progress in July’s Hungarian GP.

Binder has always struggled for pace in GP2 and has only scored in five of the 61 races he has started. However, Binder is expected to return for next month’s Italian Grand Prix.

19-year-old Gustav Malja has had an impressive debut Formula Renault 3.5 season. Malja’s season highlight was undoubtedly picking up a podium in Hungary. Gustav has scored points in six of the nine races he has competed in so far this season.

The Swede has previously raced in series such as ADAC Formel Masters and recently made a guest appearance at round 3 of the Euro F3 series at the famous Pau Grand Prix.

Elsewhere in GP2, Lazarus have confirmed that Sergio Canamasas will race for all of the remaining round of the GP2 calendar including the recently introduced 10th round in Bahrain.
