Force India F1 Driver Nico Hulkenberg says he is expecting a strong result at this weekend’s Belgium Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.
Historically, the Spa-Francorchamps circuit has been a good hunting ground for Force India. In 2009, Giancarlo Fisichella took pole position and finished second, behind Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.
The last race before the summer break at the Hungaroring was a disappointing one for Force India after both cars failed to finish.
The German driver is confident this weekend at Spa will be more competitive and hopes to secure a strong points finish in the B-Spec Force India car.
“Spa is a favourite for all the drivers. When I think of driving there it just makes me smile because it’s got so many special high-speed corners – the corners you want to experience in a Formula One car. You’ve also got the history of the place and the unpredictable weather which often helps spice up the racing.
All of the Mercedes-powered teams will be expecting to go well at Spa, the long straights will mean engine power and low downforce will be rewarded – traits in both Force India’s and Williams’ 2015 challengers.
“We go there hoping to bounce back from a tough race in Hungary. The improvements we’ve made to the car will really help us in Spa, especially through the high-speed corners. The engine also plays a big part around the lap. We are competitive and I am confident we can start the second part of the season strongly.”
Hulkenberg’s best result at the Belgium Grand Prix was a fourth-placed finish in 2012, driving for Force India.
