Mercedes masked Ferrari pace – Raikkonen

Kimi Raikkonen says Ferrari’s pace has been limited to the speed of the Mercedes this season, and Hungary showed what the Scuderia are capable of in clear air.

“We had good speed and we pulled away from them, not easily, but we were consistently faster than them,” Raikkonen told ESPN.

“I don’t know what would have happened if we were behind them, probably we couldn’t have used our own speed because it is hard to overtake.”

Sebastian Vettel increased his lead over Nico Rosberg to 20 seconds and was lapping similar times to Lewis Hamilton before the safety car deployed at the Hungaroring.

The Finn explained that there have been many times in 2015 where he and Sebastian have had more speed than they were able to show because overtaking is difficult.

“So the benefit of making good starts made a big difference and it was nice to have a good start with both cars because it hasn’t been our strongest point this year. It shows that we are doing things right and that the car is not too bad.”
