Sebastian Vettel wins the 2015 Hungarian Grand Prix in the most unbelievable circumstances. Kvyat finished 2nd and 3rd belonged to Ricciardo. Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg had action packed races and finished 6th and 8th races respectively.
The race start was aborted one lap as Massa stopped short on the grid. The Ferrari’s got off to a flying start with Vettel leading a 1-2 for the team after the first corner. Rosberg and Hamilton almost collided later on in the lap and Hamilton was forced over the grass and rejoined in 10th place.
Daniil Kvyat received team orders to let his team mate through and obliged, meanwhile Hamilton began making his way through the field which included a very close move on Felipe Massa.
Rosberg was dropping away from the Ferrari’s in 3rd place whilst Hamilton was 30 seconds off the leaders.
Maldonado and Perez collided on lap 20 resulting in a spin for the Force India, but both drivers continued.
After 30 laps, Nico Rosberg was nearly 20 seconds off Sebastian’s lead, and Hamilton had passed Ricciardo for 4th place.
Raikkonen reported a loss of power and Ferrari told him via radio that the MGUK had failed. The Finn started losing pace fast.
On lap 42 Nico Hulkenberg’s front wing detached on the pit straight and went straight on into the barrier, unhurt. A virtual safety car was deployed before the real safety car came out to allow the marshalls to sweep away debris on the racing line. This bunched the field right up for the final 25 laps of the race.
Ricciardo passed Hamilton on the restart, who had another nightmare start, losing a section of his front wing. The Brit pitted for a new wing and option tyres. He also was awarded a drive-through penalty and was left fighting for a top-10 finish.
Ricciardo closed in on Nico Rosberg and divebombed into turn 1 and punctured Rosberg’s tyre. Rosberg trundled around the lap and pitted with 5 laps to go. Hamilton passes him. You couldn’t make it up.
Vettel controlled the race well, and in the end cruised home to victory. His former team completed the podium – Kvyat leading the duo. Verstappen finished 4th, Alonso 5th. Hamilton extends his championship lead with 6th. Grosjean held off a fast Rosberg on the final lap to finish 7th.
