Mercedes’ reserve driver and DTM race driver, Pascal Wehrlein, says he is prepared to replace Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg should they become unable to race, and a F1 drive remains his goal.
Speaking to GPUpdate.net the German explained: “Sometimes I’m just in the factory watching the people work and asking them questions just to be there and be involved. I always keep up my knowledge about the car and about the steering wheel so that in case something would happen I would be ready”.
Wehrlein has completed pre-season and in-season test days during 2015 with both Mercedes and Force India. He currently stands 3rd in the DTM drivers championship with 76 points, just 5 away from the lead.
“I just have to concentrate on my performance in DTM and also in my tests and simulator work, and then there are other people making the decisions,”
“Definitely my goal is to be a Formula 1 driver one day. But I also really like DTM. I enjoy being here. Now it’s my second year with HWA, so I know everyone in this team and now we are performing better so we are able to fight for podiums and race wins.”
