Nico Rosberg topped the timesheets in second practice ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.
The German topped the opening session and maintained his strong form this weekend by setting the pace once more.
Home-hero Lewis Hamilton struggled with the balance of the W06 and was only fourth fastest – four tenths slower than team-mate Rosberg.
Red Bull enjoyed a strong second practice as Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo set the fifth and sixth fastest laps respectively.
Second practice was interrupted by two red flag periods, the first was caused by Romain Grosjean after he spun at Luffield and beached his Lotus, similarly, the second red flag was caused by Roberto Merhi, at the same corner as Grosjean.
Nico Hulkenberg set the eighth fastest time of the day in the new updated B-Spec Force India car with Sainz Jr and Massa rounding out the top ten.
McLaren continued to disappoint and with limited mileage, the British Grand Prix looks set to be another poor showing by the Woking based team.
