The 70th British Grand Prix takes place this weekend as Formula 1 returns to the site of its birth 65 years on. Lewis Hamilton is the home favourite, as he looks to take his second consecutive British GP win.

Despite having numerous layouts over its 67 year history, the home of British motorsport always produces fantastic racing – with the high speed bends of Maggots and Becketts combining with the fantastic overtaking opportunity at Stowe corner to create an epic circuit.

Force India will be hoping their new B-Spec car can make an immediate impact. Unveiled at the mid season test in Austria, the Mercedes powered team will be hoping they can make further gains on Sauber in the constructors’ table.

With his contract up at the end of the season, Kimi Raikkonen needs to start performing soon if he is to put an end to the rumours he will be replaced by either Bottas or Ricciardo. The 2007 champion had a huge shunt here last year, leading to the race being red flagged for an hour whilst the crash barrier was replaced. After a close call accident with Alonso last time out, Kimi will no doubt want a clean weekend.

McLaren had a strong test mid week, with the Honda powered MP4-30 completing well over 200 laps. Despite Alonso needing to revert to an older power unit, they will be hoping to put on a strong showing at their home race – especially for Jenson Button, whom is still to finish on the podium at his home race.

Let’s hope that the action on track is to the same temperature of the weather forecast, with a scorching weekend predicted for the home fans.
