Lewis Hamilton has admitted he was to blame for crashing in second practice for the Canadian Grand Prix.
Hamilton set the pace before heavy rain fell midway through second practice and then crashed into a tyre wall at the hairpin.
Despite topping both sessions, Hamilton endured a scrappy day at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve making several mistakes throughout both practice sessions.
Mercedes admitted that the track was too wet for intermediate tyres however Hamilton said the crash was his fault.
“I did three mistakes today,” said Hamilton when speaking to AUTOSPORT
“The wet one was my mistake. It was very slippery and I wasn’t driving particularly fast.
“Then I came to Turn 10 and it was just ice, I was going too fast and I was a passenger.
“It wasn’t my call to go out, and we – collectively – don’t think that it was the best call to go out, but it didn’t affect our running.
“It is not the best of scenarios but you have to laugh it off and take the positives into tomorrow.
“It’s still been a good day. The car is feeling good out there, really good and I feel good this weekend.”
Hamilton has won the Canadian Grand Prix on three previous occasions.
