On the 2015 Ferrari power unit (PU) the oil tank on the V6 has been relocated, on the 2014 car it was located on top of the transmission, but in 2015 it has returned to a more conventional location at the front of the V6 engine. The intercooler concept remains the same as in 2014 though has a slightly different shape. The Wastegate layout is totally new design also.
The 2015 V6 engine has a totally different exhaust and manifold concept, the ‘up and over’ approach of 2014, designed to make the internal combustion engine (ICE) more compact has been replaced by a more conventional ‘3 into 1’ manifold, as seen on the Mercedes WO5 of 2014. No clear image of the collector is yet available as it sits close inside the bell housing alongside the turbocharger housing.
The cooling system of the 2015 Ferrari has been heavily revised too, at the opening races the Italian outfit were keen to keep the design of their heat exchanges under cover, with orange boards covering the radiators . A look at the new air filter housing shows up the fact that Ferrari has a very unconventional plenum (air box). It’s a very big and bulky design which seems to of replaced the water jacket cooling concept of 2014.
For the Canadian weekend, Ferrari have used 3 tokens’s for development, with changes in driveability and performance, whereas Honda also for the Canadian weekend have used 2 token’s for reliability they claim.
