Lewis Hamilton will start on pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix – his first on the streets of Monte Carlo in Formula One.
Hamilton delivered in the final segment of qualifying to take pole position ahead of team-mate Nico Rosberg who had the upper hand in the first two parts of qualifying.
Hamilton’s last pole at Monaco was in 2006 when he was driving in GP2.
”It’s been a long time. I can’t express how happy I am to be on pole at Monaco. It’s incredibly special.” said Hamilton in the official FIA press conference after qualifying.
Achieving pole position is crucial in Monaco however Hamilton admitted the job is far from finished.
“Not even half the job is done. It’ll be mentally and physically challenging but I’m looking forward to it”
