FO-1H5RSKFF92111Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has said that brake issues cost both of his drivers today after both Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat had to nurse their cars over the line in Malaysia.

Ricciardo and Kvyat both had a strong qualifying qualifying in 4th and 6th respectively however never showed the pace in the race to challenge for the lead.

Red Bull only picked up three points with Kvyat in 9th, one place ahead of Ricciardo. Both drivers were saw with black dust coming out from their front brakes.

“A really difficult afternoon,” said Horner.

“Some contact at the first turn damaged Daniel’s front wing, which seemed to deteriorate through the race.

“Then after the Safety Car we started to see brake temperatures climb and needed to nurse the cars quite significantly through the second half of the race.

“I don’t think the drivers could have done anymore today.

“There’s plenty to understand following this weekend and plenty to address before China in two weeks.”

Former Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel picked up his maiden Ferrari victory in Malaysia, lapping both Red Bull’s. Vettel drove for Red Bull between 2009 to 2014 and won four world titles with the team. Horner took time to congratulate the German.

He said: “Sebastian drove an incredible race, so congratulations to him and Ferrari. Hopefully we will give them a harder time soon.”
