Hamilton back on top in Malaysia

_j5r2822Lewis Hamilton set the pace for Mercedes in the second practice session at the Sepang International Circuit.

Hamilton missed FP1 due to a telemetry problem however it did not seem to hinder the reigning world champion.

Ferrari’s continued an upturn in form was demonstrated by the Finn setting the second fastest time of the weekend so far – just 0.055 quicker than Nico Rosberg, who made a slight mistake on his fastest lap.

Red Bull had an encouraging day after a poor showing in Australia, Daniil Kvyat set the fourth fastest time of the session.

The Williams duo of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa were fifth and sixth fastest whilst Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel failed to set a timed lap on the medium tyres after the German spun at turn 11.

There was a brief stoppage to proceedings as Manor’s Roberto Mehri spun at turn 12 resulting in a red flag period as marshals recovered his vehicle.

Max Verstappen was eighth fastest for Toro Rosso with Marcus Ericsson and Daniel Ricciardo rounding out the top ten.

McLaren-Honda endured a more competitive showing as Fernando Alonso returned to the cockpit, Alonso was 16th fastest, 2.7 seconds off the pace of Hamilton.
