# Magnussen happy with first outing in 2015

[![Kevin Magnussen in the garage.](https://www.formulaupdate.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/l-200x300.jpg)](https://www.formulaupdate.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/l.jpg)Kevin Magnussen got his first taste of McLaren’s 2015 challenger as the Dane completed 39 laps on day three of the second pre-season test at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Magnussen deputised for the recovering Fernando Alonso who suffered an accident last week whilst testing in Barcelona. The Spaniard is expected to have recovered in time for the season opener in Australia which takes places in two weeks time.

After missing out on the full-time seat at McLaren for 2015, it is not yet known what Magnussen’s plans are for 2015 but as it stands, he will remain as test and reserve driver for the team.

Magnussen praised the improvements McLaren have made over the winter.

“This year’s car is really different to last year’s. It feels much more consistent; it’s more predictable and driver-friendly. It’s not fast enough yet, but it feels like a solid baseline, and there’s obviously still plenty more to come. I think McLaren-Honda should have a good car if they continue in this direction.

“It’s nice to be back in the car. I always enjoy driving new cars, and this is a car I haven’t driven before. I can see the work we did last year has gone into this car.

“It’s good working with Honda, they’re a very enthusiastic team, you can feel they have a desire to succeed – they’re here to win. It will take time, but that’s what they’re here to do.”
