vetteljerezSebastian Vettel once again posted the fastest time of the day, following on from his performance on the opening day to continue what has been a very strong start for Ferrari.

The German completed almost 90 laps around Jerez, with a fastest time of 1:20.984 set early on. Rain later in the session ensured he would stay top, making it two out of two for the Scuderia.

Sauber also continued where they left off from yesterday, as rookie Felipe Nasr pushed his car into second place, albeit almost a full second off the pace of Vettel.

Valtteri Bottas improved his time from yesterday to take third spot overall, half a second behind Nasr’s Sauber. The Finn had a relatively untroubled session in which he completed 61 laps, ending his programme after the rain started to fall.

After a record-setting session for Mercedes on the opening day, the Silver Arrows had a more difficult time of it as a water system problem forced Hamilton to retire his car from the session. Prior to this setback, the reigning champion had set a time good enough for fourth place, only a tenth away from the Williams of Bottas.

Max Verstappen, making his official debut with Toro Rosso, had a quiet session en route to fifth. The Dutchman completed a full race distance, making the most of his time in the dry and in the wet.

Lotus finally debuted the E23 a day ahead of their predicted schedule, with Pastor Maldonado at the wheel. The Venezuelan went on to record 41 laps, but late on in the session caused a red flag after he pulled his car to the side of the road with a drivetrain problem.

McLaren’s poor start to pre-season testing continued as Jenson Button could only muster six laps, the same as Alonso managed on the opening day.

Daniil Kvyat had a very difficult day in the office. The Russian broke his front wing very early on in the session, and with no replacements could only complete a number of installation laps.

The pre-season test resumes tomorrow, with Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen both getting their first outings in their 2015 cars.
