# Ferrari reveal 2015 car name

[![GP MALESIA F1/2014](https://www.formulaupdate.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/140034mal1-300x200.jpg)](https://www.formulaupdate.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/140034mal1.jpg)Ferrari have announced that their 2015 challenger will be called the SF15-T ahead of the car’s launch on Saturday. The Scuderia, the most successful team on the grid, have also released a sneak sound clip of the SF15-T’s first engine fire up on their website.

Ferrari are hoping that the new car, designed by James Allison, will bring about better fortunes than last year’s F14-T, which claimed only two podiums and failed to win a race – Ferrari’s first winless season since 1993. The car will be piloted by quadruple world champion Sebastian Vettel, who joins from Red Bull to replace the McLaren bound Fernando Alonso, and 2007 champion Kimi Raikkonen, who is retained for a second season. Last season’s Sauber driver Esteban Gutierrez joins as reserve driver, whilst former Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne joins as development driver.

Ferrari have struggled in recent seasons, with Alonso dragging dogs of cars to second place in the WDC 3 times in his 5 year tenure with the team. He missed out on the title in the last race in the 2010 and 2012 seasons. A major restructuring of the team took place in 2014, which saw two team principals – Stefano Domenicalli and Marco Mattiacci – sacked and long time President Luca di Montezemolo leave.

The SF15-T will be powered by the 1.6L V6 Turbo that proved troublesome last season, albeit a refined version.
