In an interview with the media yesterday, Williams driver Valtteri Bottas has not given up hope of finishing fourth in the 2014 Drivers’ Championship.
A poor display in the Brazilian GP last time out saw the Williams driver slip to sixth in the standings with Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso overtaking him. However, only three points separate the three drivers with only the season finale in Abu Dhabi to come this weekend.
In an interview with the media yesterday, Bottas is looking forward to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend especially with double points on offer and also he still thinks fourth in the Drivers Championship is still possible. Bottas stated the following:-
‘Abu Dhabi is going to be an exciting race and it could play out one of two ways. The double points could be interesting and we will try and play it to our advantage.
‘We have been trying to secure our position in the Championship and so continue to focus on this, but I can still finish fourth in the Drivers’ Championship I will focus on this as well.
‘It’s a nice place to go to, the temperature is warm, the people are friendly and the facilities good so I am looking forward to the race.’
I think many pundits and fans would agree with Bottas that the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend especially with double points on offer could be a very exciting race and also wondering if Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg will become the 2014 Formula One World Champion.
But as Bottas points out, he has been trying in the final part of the season to secure the Williams team position in the Constructors while also working on his own placing in the drivers standings and that has to be his objective this weekend and ensuring that he meets this objective as best as he can.
If Bottas can find the right set up during the weekend and find the pace and performance needed to challenge for strong points or even a podium this weekend, he could see his objective for himself and the Williams team realised this weekend after a brilliant season which has saw him show that he is ultimately a potential talent of the future.
And I do hope that Bottas achieves his objective for the team and for himself personally to end his wonderful season on the best high he can but we shall have to wait and see what happens in the race on Sunday.
