Race Preview:
Coming into the finale, there are two names on everyone’s lips. Lewis Hamilton, championship leader, and Nico Rosberg, the second placed man. One of the Mercedes drivers will leave here as World Champion, the other as runner up. For Hamilton, a second placed finish would guarantee that he would become a double world champion. For Rosberg, a top five finish is a must for him to have any chance of being champion.
Double points are on offer at this race, which has the possibility of throwing the constructors’ championship wide open. Caterham are going to be racing this weekend after missing the last two races, but Marussia sadly will still be absent. Both Caterham and Sauber, who are yet to score a point this season, know that a 9th place finish will move them above Marussia in the table and secure them millions of pounds in prize money.
Jenson Button come into this race knowing that it might well be his last. The 34 year old McLaren driver – and 2009 world champion – is yet to find out if he will keep his seat at McLaren for another season. It is believed that the Woking based team have signed Fernando Alonso for next season, but are unsure on who will be his team mate. Button has scored more points than Magnussen this season, but Ron Dennis appears keen to let the young Dane continue his growth in a race seat.
But, back to the most important matter of the weekend – deciding who will be crowned the 2014 Formula 1 World Drivers Champion.
