Mercedes executive director, Toto Wolff, has spoken about his desire for a clean finish to the championship.
This message comes after the Mercedes W05’s dominant but not invincible season, with the W05 giving the two Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, several problems throughout their respective seasons so far.
“We want the championship to end in a straight and fair battle and not by one of them breaking down.” – Toto told the BBC.
Toto describes the thought of car trouble denying Lewis the championship title as a “nightmare” – The British driver is 17 points ahead of team-mate Nico.
Wolff went on to explain “As much as we in the team don’t want that to happen, it wouldn’t be the end of the world,” and has assured both drivers that they will have many more opportunities if they lose out this year.
The race for the title concludes this weekend at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
